Chapter Seventeen
Kingston
âWhat the fuck, Phoenix!â I scowled as I tried and failed to cover Briar up. The small blanket from the back of the couch was too little to completely cover even a tiny woman like Briar.
Not to mention the fact that I was still inside her. Condom and all.
Dammit. If I couldnât cover her with the blanket, Iâd do it with my body. I rolled us until my ass faced our audience while trying to help Briar cover up her bits with the small blanket.
âI told you we were coming,â my brother replied somewhere behind me, meaning he was unabashedly watching us scramble to cover up.
âGet the fuck out!â I shouted over my shoulder.
Nix straightened from his slouch. âHey, you said I could stay while Iââ
âWait outside,â I bit out between clenched teeth. âWe gotta get dressed. You and I will talk once weâre all wearing clothes.â
âAh, gotcha. Weâll justâ¦â Nix gestured with his thumb toward the still open front door.
âGET. OUT!â If it were possible, I wouldâve lit my stupid brother on fire with my eyes alone. Unfortunately, that wasnât a power I hadâin real life or in any of my movies.
A beat later, the door quietly closed behind them.
âSoâ¦that was my brother.â A brother I was going to happily kill in a few minutes for a variety of reasons.
âAnd your mom.â Briar shook her head, her eyes wide. âWhat are we going to do? They saw everything. Everything, King. And now youâre going to introduce me as the nanny? This is my worst nightmare.â
I sat up and took a deep breath, trying to steel my homicidal rage. My brother was such a goddamn dipshit. Had he never heard of calling first? Or texting? Why hadnât I changed Nixâs access codes? And what the fuck was he thinking, bringing our mom to my house?
I had to end that train of thought. I was getting too worked up. My jaw grinding, I took a quick second and pulled off the condom with a tissue, then pulled on my boxers.
Meanwhile, Briar had hopped off the couch and was currently tangling up her shorty shorts and tank top. Her breath was audible, coming in quick panting gasps. Like she was panicking.
âBaby, look at me.â
Briarâs eyes were huge in her sweet, pale face.
âItâs going to be okay.â I took her tangled clothes from her and quickly straightened them out. âItâs not ideal, but itâs my family. We donât do things exactly the normal, easy way. Iâll have a chat with my brother and make sure he doesnât give you a hard time about what he saw.â
âBut your mom, Kingston. She saw us. Together. And Iâm Zoeâs nanny!â Briar wobbled as she stepped into her shorts.
I held her side for balance and tried to keep my tone mild. âIâll have her sign an NDA. I donât exactly trust her much anymore. But itâll be fine. Youâll see.â
âBut theyâll know. Iâm your employee and Iâm sleeping with you. Theyâll thinkâ¦not so good things about me.
